I’m of the belief that Scala is the largest software provider in the digital signage industry today. So as I am currently attending their conference this year, I wanted to highlight some details from a speech by Scala CEO, Gerard Bucas.
From Gerard’s talk, here are my takeaways:
- Lots of new products (ad manager, quick start, frame channel) which allows them to approach all offering sizes in the industry.
- The HP partnership, which gives them hardware scale & support.
- The sales numbers: 33% CAGR from 2003-2008, 2009 revenues down 8.5% over 2008 (due to drop in ad spend, hold on capex, slow NA recovery), top sales quarter ever was Q4 2010.
- Top 10 customers only represent ~25% of total revenue.
In summary, they are globally diversified with a wide customer base, many market segments, financially stable having been around for 20 years, and offer a wide selection of offerings & price points.
They are definitely leading the pack in this industry.
I am just curious…what do these guys NOT do well?
